Welcome to the RevMFLS Cup Page for 2006.

This Cup is an MFLS Tournament for the 48 best teams in RevMFLS after week two.
The Cup will be played over 16 weeks of the MFLS season (weeks 3-19, bye week 18).

Format Change

Due to the unprecedented membership of the greatest division in MFLS, the 2006 RevMFLS Cup is expanding from 48 to 64 participants.

Changes:
1. The first round will now be 8 groups of 8, lasting 7 weeks (was 5 weeks).
2. The Knockout round will change to a 3rd group, consisting of 2 groups of 4, lasting 3 weeks. Last year, the quarterfinals and semifinals totalled 4 weeks.
3. The finals will still be a two-leg event, but start one week later, MFLS weeks 19 and 20.
4. The eleven teams that fail to qualify for the 64 slots in RevMFLS Cup will be placed in the Consolation Round.

Rules - updated for 64 teams

The Tournament will consist of 3 rounds of group play over 15 weeks, followed by a two-leg final.
Game score equals MFLS points for the week.

Teams 1-64 in the division standings after week 2 qualify for the tournament. Those below 64th after week 2 will not participate.

Round 1:
64 teams, 8 groups of 8 teams, 7 matches, weeks 3-9, top 3 teams in each group advance

Round 2:
24 teams, 4 groups of 6 teams, 5 matches, weeks 10-14, top 2 teams in each group advance

Round 3:
8 teams, 2 groups of 4 teams, 3 matches, weeks 15-17, top team in each group advance to finals.

Bye week: There are only 3 games scheduled for week 18 (All Star weekend). This week will not be used for the tournament.

Finals:
Two-leg head-to-head, weeks 19 and 20.

Winner earns a berth in the Cup Winners Cup.

Initial Groupings

Each group will be determined by random draw, to be held on Monday, April 10th, 2006.   Tied teams will not be allowed in the same group to prevent seeding problems.   Groups will be labeled A through H.

To make the groupings fair, the teams will be ranked from 1-64 based on week 2 standings, then divided into 8 blocks of eight: 1-8, 9-16, 17-24, 25-32, 33-40, 41-48, 49-56,57-64. One teams from each block of 8 will be randomly drawn into each group A-H.

Tie-breakers for initial ranking will be:
  1. Goals scored
  2. Assists scored
  3. GK saves (new category)
  4. Standings after week 1
  5. Random selection

Group Play

Group play will be decided on points, 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, based on 5 head-to-head matchups, 1 each against other teams in the group. See schedules below.

The tie-breaker for group play will be:
  1. Points (W=3, T=1, L=0)
  2. MFLS Point differential (PF-PA), total round
  3. RevMFLS standings at end of round (YTD pts)
  4. Seeding at beginning of the round
Seedings in round one will be determined by initial ranking (see above).

Groupings for round 2 will be predetermined based on round 1 group and finish:
I: A1,H1,B2,E2,C3,F3
J: B1,G1,C2,H2,D3,E3
K: C1,F1,D2,G2,A3,H3
L: D1,E1,A2,F2,B3,G3

Seedings in round 2 will be determined by:
  1. Group points in round 1 (3W/1T/0L)
  2. MFLS point differential (PF-PA), round 1
  3. MFLS points through week 9
Groupings for round 3 will be predetermined based on round 2 group and finish:
M: I1,J2,K1,L2
N: I2,J1,K2,L1

Seedings in round 3 will be determined by:
  1. Group points in round 2 (3W/1T/0L)
  2. MFLS point differential (PF-PA), round 2
  3. MFLS points through week 14

The winner of group M will face the winner of group N in a two-leg match in weeks 19 & 20.
